Sherman Oaks has figured out the formula for Valley living at its absolute finest. Nestled between the 101 and 405 freeways (prime location for conquering LA’s infamous traffic), this neighborhood offers the perfect balance of suburban comfort and urban accessibility. You get tree-lined streets, excellent schools, and a genuine sense of community—plus you’re literally 15 minutes from everything.

Ventura Boulevard runs through Sherman Oaks like a Main Street on steroids, packed with restaurants that would be destination spots in any other city. From sushi that rivals anything in Tokyo to gastropubs where the bartender knows your drink, from Brazilian steakhouses to vegan cafes—the dining scene here is seriously impressive. The Sherman Oaks Galleria (yes, the one from 1980s movies) has been beautifully updated, and the surrounding shops offer everything from boutique fitness studios to independent bookstores.

The residential areas showcase classic California living: mid-century modern homes with the clean lines and open floor plans that make architects swoon, ranch-style houses perfect for families, and newer construction that incorporates the best of contemporary design. Many properties sit on generous lots with mature landscaping, pools, and outdoor spaces designed for the California lifestyle we all crave.

Families particularly love Sherman Oaks for the school options (both public and private choices that consistently rank highly) and the abundance of parks and recreation. The nearby Santa Monica Mountains provide hiking trails where you can actually see wildlife, and the location means beach days and downtown adventures are equally accessible.

Fun To Know

Sherman Oaks is named after General Moses Hazeltine Sherman, a land developer who never actually lived in the area! He was the founder of the Los Angeles Pacific Railroad and helped develop much of the San Fernando Valley in the early 1900s. The neighborhood was originally called “The Shermans” before being shortened to the snappier Sherman Oaks.
